The first time I was introduced to this market, I was quite surprised, and not very happy. I was not yet comfortable with travelling around in Gurgaon. The only reason I went with hubby is that there was a direct phut-phutti to the market, and none to MG Road and the malls, and Hubby was with me! That in itself is an important reason with me.
I’m someone who isn’t very comfortable with public transport. Have always had a 2-wheeler, and the only concession to public transport was an auto-rickshaw.
So going to the market in a phut-phutti wasn’t a very comfortable experience, and one I’m not very willing to repeat! 🙂
On more recent trips, I discovered the use of Radio Tuk-tuks and the round-about use of bus and metro services to get to the market and back. Having done that, i found myself more busy with the business of shopping rather than take photos for a blogging opportunity.
This time, however, I went during the Navrathra period. That meant that every shop was decorated from top to bottom. Finally i remembered to take the requisite photos and talk about the market!! 🙂
Gurgaon Market, or Sadar bazar, is located right next to the main Bus station of Gurgaon, popularly known as “Bus Adda”. The market would be around 200 mts from the bus station. As typical of any local bazar in India, the focus is clothes, followed by food.
There are several by-lanes along the main road of the market. Each of these lanes hold some new bargain, some new shop to be discovered. In fact almost everything that one might need is likely to be found in this market. The only problem is that you may not immediately find that shop. A few searches, and a few new shops discovered, and then you may just find what exactly you want! 🙂
The other end of the market has the subzi mandi, which provides really fresh vegetables.
In all, the Sadar Bazar at Gurgaon provides a comprehensive shopping opportunity. The only drawback being transport. Since I’m not a local to the city, and am dependant on public transport, travelling does become an issue.
But where there is a will, there is a way… and shopping prevails! 😉
